As criminal defense attorneys, we dedicated ourselves to protecting the Constitutional rights of indigent individuals accused of violating the law. In juvenile and adult cases, we provide zealous legal advocacy and seek the best possible outcome for every client we represent.
As public interest attorneys, we believe our mission only begins in the courtroom. The Montgomery County Public Defender Office continues to develop programs to provide a holistic approach to the extra-legal concerns of our clients. Our goal is to improve overall outcomes for our clients in order to improve the conditions that lead to involvement in the justice system and ultimately to reduce recidivism.
We commit to sustaining our mission as community-oriented defenders. Since 2012, the Public Defender Office has added a social work division, developed a prison liaison program, expanded the investigations division, created a dedicated homicide division, added a mitigation specialist and policy director and increased juvenile advocacy and adult system staff. In the community, we seek to improve services to our indigent clients by serving as a voice at the table in county, statewide and national policy discussions, task forces, and decision-making committees.
